Too early to know if Chelsea will try again for Cristiano Ronaldo
My understanding at the moment is that there is no talk about Cristiano Ronaldo as Chelsea are busy with different priorities, including the new director. That means it's too early to know about Chelsea’s intentions for January.
As I said on my recent YouTube video, Todd Boehly wanted Cristiano Ronaldo, but Thomas Tuchel was very clear on more than one occasion that he had no intention to go for Cristiano Ronaldo. He was offered to Chelsea, but also to Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.
For now, he is a Manchester United player, and he remains 100% professional in training as he looks to get back into the starting line up.
Chelsea’s busy end to the transfer window
In the final days of the window, Chelsea were busy - they submitted a bid to RB Leipzig for Josko Gvardiol, almost €85m. It was turned down by Leipzig, but at one point an agreement was very close. The player was tempted, but Leipzig decided to wait. But I expect Chelsea will be there again in the future.
Chelsea also had a verbal approach for Edson Alvarez, rejected by Ajax. They had no intention to negotiate, even though the player was tempted by Chelsea. Ajax were really strong, the market was already closed in the Eredivisie and that’s why they said no.
Romeo Lavia was another target - Chelsea were ready to pay £50m for him but Southampton said no as they had only just brought him in from Manchester City. He’s a super top talent, and I’m sure he’ll be one to watch again in the future.
Arsenal’s response to Bernd Leno’s “political” dig
Bernd Leno made headlines recently by hitting out at his former club Arsenal by describing his departure after losing his place “political”.
I’m told that Arsenal can't understand the meaning behind Leno's words as they simply wanted and signed Aaron Ramsdale as goalkeeper for present and future.
